A mission-driven organization near Union, NJ is seeking a detail-oriented finance professional to play a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, and grant oversight. This position partners closely with leadership to ensure strong financial stewardship across departmental operations and externally funded programs. Previous nonprofit and grant experience is not required for this role.
This is a contract position with potential for more for the right person. The schedule will be hybrid - three days onsite, two remote.
Key Responsibilities:- Contribute to the monthly close process, including preparation and review of financial reports.
- Develop and evaluate monthly financial statements at both departmental and organizational levels.
- Perform variance analysis comparing budgeted figures to actual results across functional areas.
- Collaborate with the Director of Financial Reporting & Planning to enhance and streamline budgeting and forecasting processes, including system improvements and automation initiatives.
- Oversee financial reporting and administration for government and foundation-funded grants.
- Support the onboarding and financial setup of new grants and contracts, including development of detailed budget plans.
- Monitor grant-related revenues and expenses to ensure proper allocation and compliance with funding guidelines.
- Review and validate the accuracy and completeness of monthly and quarterly contract billings.
- Assist in preparing interim and final grant reports, providing required financial data to internal stakeholders for submission.
- Contribute to special projects and other finance initiatives as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Minimum of four years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, and grant management.
- Prior experience within a nonprofit environment is advantageous.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and grant compliance standards.
- Proven ability to manage multiple funding sources, deadlines, and reporting requirements with precision.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and lookups (macro experience a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills, adaptability, and exceptional attention to detail.
Pay Range: $42/hr-$45/hr
