The Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures using X-ray equipment to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. As a key member of the clinical team, the technologist ensures high-quality images are captured with precision while maintaining patient comfort and safety. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to strict safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities Diagnostic Imaging & Technical Competence- Operate radiographic equipment to perform standard and specialized X‑ray examinations as ordered by physicians.
- Position patients correctly to capture optimal images, adjusting equipment settings based on body part, age, and clinical indication.
- Review image quality and retake images when necessary to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
- Prepare patients for imaging procedures, explaining the process, positioning, and what is expected during the exam.
- Monitor patient comfort and provide reassurance throughout the procedure.
- Communicate effectively with patients of all ages, including those with limited mobility or special needs.
- Follow radiation safety protocols and infection control procedures to protect patients, staff, and self.
- Maintain accurate radiation exposure records and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure imaging equipment is functioning properly and report any technical issues to the supervisor or biomedical team.
- Accurately document procedures, patient details, and technical information in electronic health records (EHR) or imaging systems (PACS/RIS).
- Assist with coding and billing information related to imaging procedures when required.
- Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of patient records per HIPAA standards.
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrate professional behavior, ethical practice, and sensitivity to diverse patient populations.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or related field.
- Current certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
- State licensure as required by the facility location.
- Proven technical ability in diagnostic radiography.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced clinical environment while maintaining safety and quality standards.
