Role

The Roadside Service Tech Flatbed is responsible for providing safe and best in class roadside solutions for AAA members while ensuring positive member experiences in a tow vehicle or flatbed vehicle. Flatbed Technicians respond to member requests for service within a given ETA. They ensure personal safety, member safety and vehicle security, educate members on possible issues, provide jump starts, replace flat tires, present vehicle entries and other related services.

Provides minor mechanical assistance (if trained and equipped) in an effort to get a member’s vehicle on the go; if not successful, tow disabled vehicles to repair facilities or other member requested destinations. They promote AAA products and services and ensure complete resolution of member issues. Flatbed Technicians achieve club performance standards for go rates and membership satisfaction.

Compensation and Schedule

Compensation
: $21.00 - $24.75 per hour base pay, with full benefits and incentive pay. Plus: $2.75 per hour overnight differential (10pm–6am), $1.75 per hour evening differential (6pm–10pm), and $1 per hour for weekend hours. Differentials can be combined.

What You Will Do
  • Accepts calls and responds to Dispatch or members with ETA to destination. Locates and greets members to address emotions (e.g., calming an angry member, providing reassurance) while handling technical aspects of the situation. Assesses safety of the scene on arrival to ensure the vehicle is in a safe location.
  • Provides efficient minor mechanical assistance (if trained and equipped) and towing service: asks probing questions to diagnose probable causes of breakdowns; determines best course of action based on information; requests assistance if unsure; provides battery boost as appropriate; follows safety procedures. If towing is required, tows vehicles per Club policies and AAA towing manual guidelines or manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Maintains AAA high standard of service and image: keeps service vehicle and equipment in safe working order; maintains inventory of tools and products; follows traffic laws and safety procedures; maintains a professional image; escorts temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety or transports members if vehicle is to be towed (per Club policies); operates MDC computer to receive and update calls;

    collects club revenue accurately; safeguards confidential information and follows policy on paperwork.
  • Promotes AAA products and services: educates members on AAA battery replacement service and refers calls to appropriate technician; promotes other AAA products and services; works with Dispatch to get members to their destinations (e.g., hotel, airline reservations, rental car).
  • Ability to work independently with little face-to-face contact with other team members. Must be flexible to work a variety of shifts to cover a 24/7 operation.
  • Takes care to prevent damage and injury when locating securing points and responding to changing vehicle dynamics with towed equipment.
  • Works under pressure in busy conditions with varying traffic and weather conditions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience
    :
    At least 21 years of age; post-secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting required
  • Licenses and Certifications
    :
    Active and valid driver’s license issued by one state or jurisdiction; DOT card pre-hire and as a current employee within 1 year; satisfactory motor vehicle record check during pre-hire screening and periodically during employment

Sign-on bonus terms: Any candidate who accepts a full-time, regular job as a Roadside Technician with AAA Northeast before 2/28/26 will be eligible to receive a $2500 sign-on bonus. This bonus will be issued in two installments, the first after successful completion of 3 months of employment and the second after successful completion of 6 months of employment. These bonus terms take effect on your first day of work.
