Position: Residence Hall Director, Office of Residence Life

Residence Hall Director (Professional Services Specialist
4)

Position is a 12‑month, live‑in professional staff employee in the Office of Residence Life. The role reports to the Managing Assistant Director and Director of Residence Life or their managerial designee.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the total operation of a residence hall or area housing approximately 250 to 1,000 residents
  • Selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of student staff including Resident Assistants (RA), Desk Assistants (DA) and Community Assistants (CA)
  • Provide developmental opportunities for residents through programming, judicial intervention, and advisement
  • Handle administrative tasks, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, enforce university policy and discipline, participate in an on‑call system, and serve on committees essential to the Residence Life program
  • Create an environment conducive to academic excellence that fosters personal development and a sense of community within the living environment
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes evening, weekend and holiday hours; live on campus
  • Travel off‑campus and to other campus locations as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and at least one year of professional experience in housing and residence life or a related student affairs position (Master’s degree may substitute for the one year of experience)
  • Preferred experience in residence hall student development, facilities operations and residence life programs in higher education
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and supervisory skills; proven leadership abilities; computer literacy
Salary and Benefits

Negotiated annual salary: $55,142.18 (Step 1). Salaries for internal applicants will be based on union negotiated calculations. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan, and work‑life‑balance benefits.

Location and Working Conditions

Employment requires working at any of Kean’s New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, which may include the main campus in Union;
Kean Ocean in Toms River;
Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township;
Kean Jersey City;
Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township;
Manahawkin;
Princeton; and Trenton.

On‑campus residency will be provided by the Office of Residence Life.
