Job Description:

Job will be 80% outdoors, so the applicant must be willing to work in the Florida weather at all times of the year. The Field Research Assistant will work directly with the Field Scientist or Research Associate to complete any of the various research and operational tasks conducted at the Myakka City R&D Center, including: crop scouting for various pests; making recommendations for crop maintenance applications/activities;

operation of landscape maintenance equipment (mower, trimmer); maintenance of fruit, row crop, vegetable crop research plots (staking, tying, weeding, etc.); planting and transplanting seedlings by hand, harvesting fruits and vegetables by hand; some tractor operations under supervision; pulling tractor-drawn and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops; participating in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops;

repairing farm buildings, fences, and other structures; setting up and operating irrigation equipment, applying pesticides and fertilizers to crops (under supervision). If applicant is not familiar with all skills listed above, a positive and willing to learn attitude is needed. Be willing to work longer hours during planting and harvesting.
