South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a Special Education Teacher to provide classroom instruction and support for students with special needs across multiple sites.
Responsibilities- Prepare lesson content and instructional activities to improve students’ content knowledge, mastery of skills, and overall content knowledge.
- Engage in best practices to deliver Special Education content, providing specific lessons and instruction to exceptional students at multiple education sites, through established instructional delivery platforms, in the least restrictive environment in accordance with state and federal Special Education regulations, demonstrating technology proficiency in using district-endorsed instructional applications.
- Establish clear communication with students, site facilitators, and all personnel within the distance learning instructional delivery platform.
- Advance the mission and vision of the School District and the Agency.
- Display professionalism and leadership by following established school, agency, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Perform other related job duties as required.
- State minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in special education, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing required knowledge, skills and abilities; experience working with special needs children in an educational setting. - Additional:
Must possess S.C. teacher certification in special education preferably in multi‑categorical discipline. - Knowledge of laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position; comprehension, interpretation and application of regulations, procedures and related information.
- Knowledge of various disabilities encountered, teaching and instruction techniques for children with special needs, principles of planning and implementing individualized education plans, and characteristics of the age group assigned.
- Limited overnight travel.
- Position may involve duties related to custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of DJJ; employee may have direct and indirect contact with these youth; training applicable to these duties will be provided.
