Senior Accountant
A well established company in the commercial manufacturing and project based services space is seeking a Senior Accountant for its Long Island office. The company serves commercial, healthcare, institutional, and residential clients, including schools, hospitals, and public sector projects.
This is an on site role functioning as the primary accounting point person in the office, supporting ownership and outside financial advisors on day to day financial questions. The position carries elevated responsibility for job costing and project accounting, though banking and company wide financial reporting are handled by a separate corporate office.
Responsibilities
- Maintain job cost records by project, tracking budgets against actual costs and flagging variances.
- Follow up on purchase orders, material orders, and the progress of signed contracts.
- Enter and maintain data that supports work in progress reporting, prepared in coordination with an outside accounting firm.
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, payment tracking, collections follow up, and customer account reconciliation.
- Manage accounts payable, including reviewing and coding vendor invoices and tracking payments.
- Process project billing on a deposit and completion basis rather than percentage of completion billing.
- Maintain records of sales commissions.
- Coordinate on insurance documentation as needed for projects.
- Support general ledger entry and basic financial reporting.
- Serve as a resource to project managers and sales staff on accounting related questions.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Senior Accountant or in a similar accounting role.
- Construction or project based industry accounting experience is helpful but not required.
- Job costing experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of general ledger structure and how it connects across systems.
- Experience with Sage and or Procore is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with AIA billing is a plus.
- Comfortable working independently in a small office environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work directly with ownership, project managers, and outside consultants.
