Job Title: Director of Environmental Services
Facility: Townhouse Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing
Location: Uniondale, New York
Shift: Full-Time, Day, Must be flexible (on call)
Pay Rate: $90,000/year
Position Summary: The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing the areas of Engineering, Maintenance, and Housekeeping at Townhouse Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing. This individual will ensure the physical plant and all properties are maintained in compliance with safety, cleanliness, and quality standards. The role involves supervision of housekeeping leads and staff, as well as coordination of maintenance and engineering functions to ensure optimal facility operations.
Responsibilities- Maintenance & Engineering Duties:
- Establish and oversee inspection and maintenance schedules for the facility, ensuring timely completion and appropriate documentation.
- Lead the Maintenance, Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering services to ensure facility upkeep.
- Approve purchasing requests, manage vendor proposals, and oversee the utilization of outside contractors.
- Develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and monitor the departmental budget, providing input to the overall facility budget.
- Supervise staff and monitor their performance, conducting regular evaluations.
- Implement and maintain a preventive program for all equipment used in resident care and facility maintenance.
- Coordinate and supervise facility renovation and improvement projects, whether in-house or through external contractors.
- Provide input for equipment purchases and placement.
- Lead in-service education programs focused on fire, safety, and disaster planning.
- Take part in committee meetings and special projects as assigned.
- Housekeeping Responsibilities:
- Supervise housekeeping staff, including work assignment preparation, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure staff maintains high standards of cleanliness and safety in all facility areas.
- Oversee housekeeping department scheduling, manage attendance records, and ensure effective staffing.
- Participate in the hiring, discipline, and termination of housekeeping personnel in accordance with union regulations and laws.
- Lead the development and scheduling of in-service training programs for housekeeping employees.
- Work closely with the Director of Environmental Services to establish departmental goals, standards, and quality expectations.
- Conduct regular meetings with housekeeping staff to provide guidance, address concerns, and discuss new policies.
- Review and monitor housekeeping-related performance, payroll sheets, and inventories.
- Ensure regular updates to the department's policy and procedure manual.
- 5-7 years of experience in Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Engineering in a nursing home setting, with 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
- Mechanical background in Engineering or a related field.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with payroll systems and staffing management.
- Ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
