Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Stepdown position on a night shift, requiring a PA or compact RN license and 2 years of acute care experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an acute care stepdown unit

• 28-bed private room unit with heavy cardiac, dysrhythmia, CVA, and mixed patient types, including patients downgraded from the ICU

• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, or 1:6 with Med Surg acuity

• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation

• Uses Cerner and Epic EMR systems

• Central monitor station responsibilities for the hospital’s telemetry

• RN must read and interpret cardiac strips and titrate specific drips, including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin

• Ventilator management includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen therapies

• Floating required to ICU as helping hands

• Scrub color is navy blue including jackets

• Responsible for comprehensive cardiac monitoring and immediate response to changes in patient condition

• No IV team available; ICU charge nurses or director can assist with difficult IVs

• Hospitalist is in-house 24/7, with Intensivist support in ICU during the day and on-call after hours

• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy on site 24/7

• Team includes day charge nurse (no assignment) and night charge nurse (may have assignment)

• Two nurse aides per shift during the day and mid-shift; no CNA coverage after 11 p.m.

• Orientation includes two shifts with a preceptor

• No local travelers accepted within a 50-mile radius; local travel rules strictly enforced

• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one year without a 2-year break

• Must participate in block scheduling and communicate scheduling preferences with unit director

Requirements

• Active PA or compact RN license required

• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience, specifically in stepdown or telemetry units

• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required

• Must provide an unexpired copy of driver's license for consideration

• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips

• Must be able to titrate specified drips and manage non-invasive ventilators

• Successful completion of EKG testing may be required for PCU, ICU, and stepdown units

• Cannot have worked at any WVU Medicine location within the last 2 years if previously employed
