Senior Machinist Technician (WL‑3414‑11) – 12th Maintenance Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph AFB, Texas. The role serves as work leader, responsible for training, coordination, and accomplishing mission objectives, while performing quality machining operations and repairs on T‑1, T‑7, and T‑38 aircraft, components, and support equipment.

Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Required to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
  • Position subject to random drug testing.
  • May be required to work occasional overtime, rotating shifts, rare tours, and weekends; standard shift is Monday through Friday day‑shift hours.
  • Must be able to drive a government motor vehicle and possess an appropriate government driver’s license with color‑vision capability for runway operations (red, green, white).
  • 2‑4 years of CNC programmer and/or operator experience; must be able to operate CNC and other typical machining equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and instructions from supervisors; assign tasks and demonstrate proper work methods.
  • Act as machinist leader—analyze, troubleshoot, and perform all aspects of machining work; inspect repairs and ensure quality.
  • Manufacture complex and non‑routine parts from various metals and alloys using conventional or CNC machine tools and precision handwork.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, shapers, planers, grinders, thread cutters, and drills.
  • Motivate employees to streamline processes and design or create repairs for assigned aircraft; coordinate with aircraft engineers for optimal solutions.
  • Create an atmosphere of partnership with customers, reflecting Maintenance Directorate policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient with conventional and CNC machines including lathes, boring mills, milling machines, shapers, planers, grinders, thread cutters, and radial drills.
  • Skillful use of precision instruments such as vernier calipers, height gauges, squares, protractors, micrometers, surface gauges, indicator blocks, gauge blocks, dial indicators, and optical comparators.
  • Knowledge of metals and materials used in aircraft (aluminum, brass, high‑carbon and alloy steels, chrome, nickel, titanium, nylon, rubber, plastics, Teflon) and related processes such as heat treating, annealing, plating, welding, and their effects on machining operations.
