Pay and Benefits
- $20.80 per hour
- Longevity Pay - $4 per month for each year of service

The Part‑Time Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various vehicles and equipment, cleaning and maintaining the shop, washing vehicles, picking up parts and vehicles from different locations, assisting mechanics as needed and other duties assigned. The Part‑Time Mechanic receives general supervision in task performance and is expected to show good judgment in the completion of assigned work. The Part‑Time Mechanic is directly responsible for the safety of self and indirectly responsible for the safety of co‑workers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)- Pickup parts and vehicles from various locations
- Repair/replace worn, broken or malfunctioning parts
- Service vehicles and equipment as needed
- Prepares vehicles for State Inspections
- Repair/replace flat tires
- Wash and clean City vehicles
- Cleans and maintains shop area
- Utilizes proper safety precautions and procedures related to work performed
- Regular and timely attendance is essential for this position
Performs other necessary duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Chief Mechanic, Asst. Director of Public Works and Director of Public Works.

Education and/or Experience- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational school or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification is preferred.
- Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of the modern methods used in repairing, maintaining, and adjusting vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of the operation of tools and equipment commonly used in vehicle and equipment repair.
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Good customer service skills.
