The Crew Leader position focuses on the construction, repair, and maintenance of University City streets. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting a crew in completing assigned projects, including but not limited to crew safety, street maintenance, and the repair of sidewalks, bridges, signs, and equipment.
Work is performed under the direction of the Street Supervisor, who issues work orders and inspects work in progress and upon completion for adherence to work orders and accepted standards of workmanship. Crew Leaders are expected to complete routine assignments without detailed supervision.

The following duties are normal for this position, but not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required as assigned.
- Lead and support a crew in maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and other City infrastructure.
- Operate and oversee equipment including trucks, heavy machinery, and hand tools to get the job done safely and efficiently.
- Plan and organize daily work
, making sure crews, equipment, and materials are ready to go. - Assign and track daily jobs
, ensuring work is completed on time and to City standards. - Inspect completed work and step in to resolve issues or resident concerns.
- Promote a strong safety culture by investigating incidents, enforcing standards, and providing training when needed.
- Manage daily operations
, including end-of-day check-ins, tracking work completed, and reporting any issues. - Handle basic paperwork and tracking
, including materials, permits, and equipment use. - Jump in and work alongside the crew when needed to keep projects moving.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- Experience in the supervision of labor crews and the use of equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and service operations, including some specialized knowledge in the area.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and how they relate to the hazards and safety equipment of the work.
- Knowledge of standard and common construction practices and methods related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets and related projects.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to prioritize and allocate work.
- Ability to read and interpret documents related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets and related projects.
- Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, and the public to convey information and to receive work.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Physical strength and endurance.
- Regularly requires frequent standing, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and walking while performing certain assigned tasks.
- Valid, current CDL driver's license.
- High School diploma or equivalent certification.
- Between five and ten years of experience in performing related work preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
This position will encounter moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, chemicals, oils, inclement weather conditions, noise, frequent standing, walking, and driving, including travel between locations.
