After‑School Program Instructional Staff – Part Time – Interim
This is a part‑time job. You must be available Monday‑Thursday throughout the school operating year from at least 2‑6:00.
Primary FunctionEngage at‑risk elementary school students to improve academic outcomes through intensive tutoring and positively affect social‑emotional and character development. Help oversee a team to facilitate enrichment activities. Provide program services to actively participating university students and assist the Program Site Coordinator in delivering high‑quality educational services. Assist with parent and family education events and field trips. Create and implement fun activities for all elementary age groups.
Monitor and evaluate situations quickly using good judgment to maintain a safe environment for children and adults.
- Communicate positively and build relationships with members and parents, providing guidance and role modeling.
- Adapt programs and activities creatively and flexibly as needed.
- Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure safety, quality, and good appearance of the branch.
- Maintain safety by ensuring equipment and environment are appropriately maintained.
- Apply appropriate guidance and discipline techniques.
- Ensure a productive work environment by collaborating with the team.
- Participate in staff and/or teacher meetings and training as required.
- Complete appropriate reporting according to organization and grant requirements.
- May participate in special programs and/or events.
- Internal:
Maintain close daily contact with staff (professional and volunteer) and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel. - External:
Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.
- At least two‑year minimum experience volunteering or working with children and some experience leading a group.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with staff, parents, volunteers, and children.
- Good general computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to plan and implement fun and exciting quality programs for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Academic ability to tutor on an elementary level in English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
- Recommended CPR, First Aid Certifications, and Background Check.
Physical requirements:
Ability to read and interpret documents, exchange information, visually monitor activities, perform CPR or first aid, use hands and arms, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, jump, kneel, crouch, crawl, operate a motor vehicle, occasionally sit, and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Working environment:
Normal after‑school environment.
