Working within a progressive enrollment management model, the Graduate Admission Counselor increases the John Carroll University reputation and brand awareness by building strategic enrollment pipelines for the College of Arts and Sciences. This role works with prospective graduate students throughout the enrollment process, focusing primarily on curating the recruitment funnel and shepherding applicants from the initial point of inquiry up to matriculation and orientation for the graduate programs in Science, Communication, Education, and the Humanities.
The Graduate Admission Counselor serves as the primary recruitment lead and event coordinator for graduate programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. This includes coordinating and running targeted admission events for specialized student populations, streamlining personalized campus visits and tours, gathering and editing content for communication flows, and collaborating closely with faculty to develop new pipelines that expand student interest across all programs.
This role will also take on event management responsibility for University-wide events for the graduate schools, including the Open House and Admitted Student Receptions.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Shepherd students from point of inquiry to matriculation, curating the funnel for the graduate programs in Science, Communication, Education, and the Humanities.
* Attend various recruitment fairs, including graduate school showcases, career fairs, and corporate/business visits to build the prospect pipeline.
* Streamline all aspects of student visit-scheduling with rooms, faculty, tours, etc.
* Gather, draft, and edit content for graduate enrollment communication flows as needed.
* Collaborate with faculty on developing new admissions pipelines to expand the diversity of students in the program.
* Coordinate and run all admission events for graduate programs in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the University-wide events for graduate programs such as the Open House and Admitted Student Receptions.
* Provide tours to prospective students.
* Actively participate in general Graduate School and University admission events and initiatives.
* Oversee the timely data entry, uploading, and categorization of prospective student applications and academic transcripts into the CRM student information system for all three college's graduate programs.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in relevant academic/professional fields.
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with students in a higher education setting.
* Excellent time management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* An ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external constituencies.
* Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
* An enthusiasm for helping prospective graduate students navigate the graduate school search process.
* A high energy level, strong attention to detail, and compelling presentation skills.
* Able to prioritize workflow and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Ease with multiple modes of communication, including phone, email, and text messaging.
* Evidence of providing a high level of customer service when working with faculty, staff, and students.
* Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll's mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, higher education, or other related field.
* 2-3 years of experience in admissions, enrollment, or school counseling.
* Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service.
* An understanding and ability to articulate the value of a graduate degree.
Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions
University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations.
Physical Requirements
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard;
to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Hours Full Time FLSA Exempt (Salary) Compensation & Benefits
Starting salary range is $44,000 - $48,000, commensurate with qualifications.
