Job Description
The Engineering Services Office in the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State is seeking a self‑motivated, positive, customer‑service‑oriented and quality‑conscious Administrative Support Intern to join our Facilities Operations & Maintenance team. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).
WorkingHours & Location
This will be a year‑round paid internship. You will work up to 20 hours per week during the semester, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. The position is fully on‑site in State College, PA; relocation and housing are not provided. Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location.
Responsibilities- Answer phones and greet visitors
- Assist with assigning, closing, and commenting on facilities work orders
- Scan documents for purchasing and travel expense reconciliation
- Update building door cores
- Verify key inventory and records
- Deliver items, such as paper, keys, etc., as requested
- Assist Trades as requested
- Assist in reorganization of computer shared folders
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Interest in learning job‑related software
- Success in effectively working in an office environment that utilizes diverse communication and organizational skills
- Professionalism with a high commitment to customer service
- Ability to take initiative and effectively manage time, prioritize, and problem‑solve
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
- Experience with SIMBA, Confluence, Workday, and SAP Concur
- Active government security clearance
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. All positions at ARL require candidates to possess the ability to obtain a government security clearance; you will be notified during the interview process if this position is subject to a government background investigation.
