Photography​/Videography Intern

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is searching for a curious and creative student to help create photo and video collateral while developing skills relevant to a career in marketing and multimedia.

This position will assist the Photographer/Videographer within ARL's Corporate Communications department to tell success stories and promote ARL's high-impact research through audiovisual means. This is an opportunity for students interested in filmmaking, photography, marketing, and communications to gain hands-on professional experience working with clients through all phases of production. The primary responsibility is to support ARL's Photographer/Videographer in day-to-day tasking.

As such, this position's responsibilities may vary based on current client requests, but will always have a photo/video focus. Under the supervision of ARL's Photographer/Videographer, this position may evolve to include other responsibilities based on the candidate's skills and interests. ARL is an authorized DoD Skill Bridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

• Capture on-site photos and videos of ARL research and events at and around the University Park campus
• Help set up and take down audio, video, and lighting equipment in laboratory environments for promotional video shoots
• Organize and edit new and existing photography for a variety of use-cases
• Create drafts of videos for review
• Attend project kick-off meetings and brainstorm ways to approach new projects

• Familiarity with the Adobe Suite, most importantly Premiere Pro and Lightroom/Photoshop
• Basic photography/videography skills
• Ability to express ideas successfully to drive understanding
• A commitment to professional development, learning, and being mentored
• Ability to follow direction and multi-task
• Willingness to be flexible and ask questions when navigating new and unfamiliar tasks

The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours per week over the summer.
