JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
University Police and Public Safety is accepting applications for the position of part‑time Police Dispatcher/Recorder. Under the direction of the Operations Center Manager, the dispatcher/recorder will provide police communications and dispatching, maintain police files and records, and perform a wide variety of complex clerical duties requiring specialized knowledge in the police field.
- Answer emergency and non‑emergency telephone calls and handle multiple calls simultaneously.
- Make decisions on incidents, emergencies, ambulance needs, and fire actions.
- Receive, evaluate, prioritize, and disseminate district‑wide calls for assistance/service via voice radio and phone.
- Maintain two‑way communication with police units, dispatch cars and personnel, and update department computer systems.
- Question complaints, gather information, facilitate apprehension of offenders, and relay instructions to callers and university personnel.
- Use Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) software and two‑way radio communications.
- Produce reports and data entry with minimal errors.
Typical qualifications:
- Applied trades training and minimum three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent oral communication skills and effective decision‑making skills.
- Exceptional computer and typing skills with minimal errors.
- Experience with CAD software and two‑way radio communications is recommended.
- Fingerprinted background check required.
Work schedule:
Up to 8‑20 hours per week across weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Employment requires successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
