Position: Part-Time Summer 2026 New Student Orientation Advising Assistant - Department of Biology

What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
  • Assist incoming first-year students with navigating Lion Path, Starfish, and Canvas platforms
  • Help students enroll in summer and fall courses
  • Greet and check in students as they enter the Zoom room for academic consultations
  • Participate in training sessions and all/most NSO programs during designated summer dates
  • Collaborate with other advising assistants to support new students effectively
What is Required (Qualifications)
  • Must be a 2nd semester Penn State student in good academic standing
  • Availability for training on May 19 and NSO programs from May 20 – July 7 and July 15 – August 28, 2026
  • Strong communication skills to interact with incoming students
  • Ability to work scheduled hours from about 10:45 am - 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Preference for those pursuing a major in the Eberly College of Science (Biology majors preferred but not required)
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Previous experience in a mentoring or advising role
  • Familiarity with academic advising tools and platforms
  • Interest in supporting new students in their transition to university life
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Enthusiasm for promoting a positive educational experience
