Position Specifics

The Child Care Center at Hort Woods in the University Park campus is seeking an infant/toddler supervising early childhood development educator. The teacher serves as a master teacher, supervises staff, coordinates and implements lesson plans, and maintains child development records. Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location.

  • Supervise, train, and develop staff, students, and work‑study staff; support the director/coordinator with staffing needs.
  • Coordinate and implement lesson‑plan development, maintain records, and ensure a safe, supportive classroom environment.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement parent‑involvement programs.
  • Assess children and maintain developmental records.
  • Provide various reports to management.
  • Communicate with management on classroom, personnel, and other issues.
  • May complete various administrative tasks.
  • Serve on search committees as assigned.
  • Oversee child/teacher assignments.
  • Act as a master teacher.
  • May oversee the program in the absence of the program administrator.
  • May perform additional work activities of teachers at all levels as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a minimum Child Development Association (CDA) credential. A health physical with TB screening is required prior to starting the position.

  • Required certifications:
    None.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.;
    Penn State does not sponsor employment visas.
Background Checks and Clearances

Position requires the following clearances: PA State Police criminal background check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, Federal FBI fingerprint criminal background check, and National Sex Offender Registry Clearance. Additional clearance may be necessary if the applicant resided outside Pennsylvania in the past five years.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $40,608.00 – $58,836.00, depending on grade.
