Job Description and Position Requirements

The Department of Statistics at Pennsylvania State University, University Park location, invites applications at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, and Teaching Professor depending on candidates’ qualifications.

Applicants must have a master’s or terminal degree (Ph.D.) in statistics, data science, or a closely related field by appointment start date; a master’s degree is the minimum requirement. The courses for which this position would be responsible may range from introductory undergraduate to upper‑level undergraduate statistics and data science courses. Qualified candidates may also be expected to teach graduate‑level statistics and data science service courses for non‑statistics students.

Examples of courses may include a capstone course for statistics majors and a course on introductory data science and computing. Options for occasional online teaching or course design/redesign for majors are possible.

It is expected that the successful applicant(s) is committed to quality undergraduate teaching. Additional details can be included in the statement of teaching.

This is a term position initially funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of re‑funding.

• Assistant Teaching Professor
  :
  Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field by the employment start date, or a master’s degree with demonstrated ability as a teacher and advisor.
• Associate Teaching Professor
  :
  Terminal degree (Ph.D.) by the employment start date, demonstrated ability as a teacher and advisor, and evidence of professional development and scholarship.
• Teaching Professor
  :
  Terminal degree (Ph.D.) by the employment start date, exceptional ability as a teacher and advisor, and evidence of a high level of professional development and scholarship.
