Position Overview
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Electrochemical Engine Center (ECEC) to research the safety of lithium‑ion batteries. This term position will be discussed during the interview process; continuation beyond the initial term will depend on university needs, performance, and funding availability.
Job Duties- Conduct research on the safety of lithium‑ion batteries.
- Apply expertise in electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and flame composition measurements to support the multidisciplinary ECEC program.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in advanced batteries and fuel cell research for vehicle electrification, renewable energy storage, and power grids.
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field by the start date.
- Strong prior experience in lithium battery research.
- Proficiency in electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to solve critical problems.
