UAS & Digital Engineering Intern

The Product and Process Design Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State seeks undergraduate students to design and assemble small, unmanned rotorcraft and to work on digital engineering challenges. ARL is an authorized DoD Skill Bridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. ARL focuses on defense science, systems, and technologies with an emphasis on naval missions.

• Develop control systems and implement them on rotorcraft
• Develop test plans and conduct flight tests to verify design and control law correctness, using modeling and simulation in the design and test preparation process
• Develop modeling and simulation algorithms and implement them in code for use by the team
• Understand Digital Engineering tools, techniques, and tactics for future projects
• Prepare reports on results of testing
• Present on results to sponsors

• Undergraduate students studying Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must pass a government security investigation
• Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen

The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours per week during the summer.
