Position

We are searching for an experienced, detail-oriented, and customer service focused IT Support Specialist to join our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Tools Team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The PLM CAD Tools Team works in collaboration with ARL Research Offices to support the management of research and engineering data via Siemens Teamcenter and a suite of engineering design tools.

ARL is an authorized DoD Skill Bridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

Location

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. Hybrid options may exist depending on research needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to users for CAD software packages and Siemens Teamcenter PLM
  • Diagnose, research, and resolve user issues in a timely manner through established protocols, robust communication, and troubleshooting; elevate as needed
  • Participate in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting, and support for applications and servers
  • Provide appropriate access to applications, systems, and data
  • Provide guidance and inform users of policies and procedures, including training when necessary
  • Implement security policies and protocols
  • Utilize and maintain knowledge bases, white papers, FAQs, and vendor documentation
  • Contribute to documentation of incidents, internal processes, and training manuals
  • Assist in tracking and maintaining hardware and software inventory and interact with vendors
  • May supervise a growing staff, including hiring, development, and performance management
Required skills/experience areas
  • Oracle databases and application servers (e.g., Apache Tomcat)
  • Helpdesk ticketing systems (e.g., Atlassian Jira)
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Experience following established protocols and security procedures
  • Success in environments where communication and organizational skills were crucial
Preferred skills/experience areas
  • Associate’s degree in computer or specialized technology
  • CAD tools and PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter)
  • VMWare and virtual machine management
  • Microsoft Office Product Suite – Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project, Visio
  • Current eligibility to access classified information at the Secret level or higher; may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility if required
Minimum Education , Work Experience & Required Certifications

If filled as IT Support Specialist – Senior Support, this position requires an Associate Degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required

Certifications:

None.

If filled as IT Support Specialist – Intermediate Support, this position requires a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination. Required

None.

Background Checks/Clearances

Employment with the University requires successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. All positions at ARL require candidates to possess the ability to obtain a government security clearance; the interview process will determine if a background investigation is required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $46,400.00 - $74,000.00. The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.
