Job Description

The Information Technology Services Office of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking undergraduate students to work across a variety of information technology disciplines, including computing support, networking, systems administration, helpdesk support, and cybersecurity. ARL is an authorized DoD Skill Bridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

• Assist with installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and support of computing and network hardware and software
• Provide end‑user support
• Assist in developing process and equipment documentation; assist with equipment inventory and auditing
• Answer phones and emails
• Assist with cybersecurity initiatives
• Produce technical writing documents
• Assist with programming and software development tasks
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills
• Technical writing ability

• Linux knowledge (highly desired)
• Computing Help Desk experience
• Configuration, installation, programming, and support of network equipment
• Experience with Microsoft Windows systems in a domain environment

The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours per week during the summer. Hours may vary. This is a paid part‑time position located at ARL’s Main Lab Building on the University Park Campus. Relocation and housing are not provided.

All positions at ARL require the ability to obtain a government security clearance. Candidates will be notified during the interview process if this position is subject to a government background investigation. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen is required.
