Job Description And Position Requirements
The Mitchell lab in the Department of Entomology is recruiting undergraduate researchers to assist in insect pheromone ecology and chemoreception as part of a broader study on the chemical ecology of wood-boring insects. The role involves local travel (within 1 hour of State College), insect collection and identification, and opportunities to assist with chemistry and molecular biology benchwork. Students will receive training in forest entomology, insect monitoring, and pheromone collection and analysis using GC‑MS.
- Travel to study sites within 1 hour of State College.
- Collect and identify insects at the sites.
- Assist with benchwork in chemistry and molecular biology.
- Receive training in forest entomology methods, insect monitoring, and pheromone analysis.
Preference will be given to students who have completed coursework in insect classification (or have prior job experience) and who possess a valid driver’s license. Employment will require successful completion of a background check in accordance with University policies, a motor vehicle records check, and a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle as part of job duties.
