Job Description And Position Requirements

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University is accepting applications for a research assistant position. The successful applicant will contribute to a research project focused on the development of novel injectable hydrogels for tissue engineering applications.

Responsibilities
  • Support the preparation and characterization of biomaterials.
  • Carry out in vitro mammalian cell culture experiments.
  • Perform biological assays using fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry.
  • Assist with data collection and interpretation.
  • Maintain well‑organized sample tracking and data records.
  • Conduct data analysis using Microsoft Excel and Image

Qualifications
  • Holder of a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience with wet lab techniques, including material preparation and mammalian cell culture.
  • Proficiency in micropipetting and general liquid handling techniques.
  • Familiarity with fundamental cell‑based assays and analytical methods.
  • Strong data management skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Compensation

Starting rate: $20/hour.
