JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Bletz Lab is seeking a part time researcher to assist with a project aiming to advance the content, usability and accessibility of the database of culturable bacteria with known function isolated from amphibian species globally – the Amphi Bac database. This database is used to predict microbiome function of amphibian microbiomes generated through NGS sequencing.
This position will lead efforts for improving usability of the database through development of an R package and/or python-based package that streamlines and automates use of the database for predictions. Along with this package, the successful applicant will help develop vignettes and tutorials that will be hosted on Git Hub to help new users. The successful applicant will also help design and develop a web-based query‑able database that will allow newly collected bacterial isolates to be queried to understand if and where they have been found on amphibians before and their potential functions.
The ideal candidate will have experience with or interest in computer programming, package development and/or web-based databases; experience with R or python language and databases is preferred. Please reach out to Dr. Molly Bletz with questions molly.bletz.
Job duties will include:
- Developing code-based tools associated with DNA sequence data
- Designing a query‑able online database
