POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill a research assistant professor position focusing on superconducting hybrid devices involving superconductors with graphene and other two‑dimensional materials. The successful candidate will lead thin film growth, device fabrication, and transport measurements of superconducting devices interfaced with graphene, topological materials, and other 2D systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead the growth of superconducting thin films using a high‑pressure chemical vapor deposition (HPCVD) process.
- Perform nanofabrication of device structures including photolithography, electron‑beam lithography, and sputtering techniques.
- Conduct low‑temperature and high‑magnetic‑field transport measurements on superconducting hybrid devices.
- Apply expertise in superconductivity, quantum materials, and superconducting device physics to advance the research program.
- Demonstrate experience with epitaxial growth of thin films using chemical vapor deposition, pulsed‑laser deposition, or related techniques.
- Utilize lithographic methods and perform measurements at cryogenic temperatures and high magnetic fields.
- Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or Device Physics (or a closely related field).
- Strong background in superconductivity and quantum materials.
- Technical experience in thin‑film growth, nanofabrication, and low‑temperature measurement.
Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and three reference letters submitted to qil1 indicating the appropriate job number in the subject line.
BACKGROUND CHECKSEmployment with the University will require successful completion of background checks in accordance with University policies.
