JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for a part‑time undergraduate researcher to assist the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in a project that records and analyzes videos of stream surfaces to quantify flow velocity and discharge. The successful candidate will help preprocess videos and images and manually label them according to simple instructions.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Preprocess video and image data for machine‑learning analysis.
- Manually label images using standardized guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of labeling work and data quality.
- Assist in the development and testing of computational methods for streamflow monitoring.
- Undergraduate student status with a strong background in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with basic image‑processing or machine‑learning concepts is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Effective communication skills and a willingness to work independently and as part of a research team.
Employment will require successful completion of a background check in accordance with University policies.
