Data Management Specialist-OSP
The University of Alabama at Birmingham invites qualified candidates to join the Office of Sponsored Programs as a Data Management Specialist-OSP. The role serves as the initial point of contact for incoming funding submissions—including federal, nonprofit, and industry-sponsored proposals—by identifying the submission type, verifying required documents, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining quality standards before institutional review.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Reviews and identifies the type of funding action upon intake and initiates necessary action items.
- Verifies the inclusion of all required components per sponsor guidelines and internal policy (e.g., budget, scope of work, compliance forms, institutional approvals).
- Performs initial quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of system information, including project dates, personnel roles, budget figures, and regulatory requirements.
- Communicates with principal investigators, department administrators, and OSP staff to resolve discrepancies or request missing information.
- Maintains and updates tracking systems for submissions, awards, and post‑award activity.
- Supports the development and refinement of intake and quality control procedures and templates.
- Stays current on sponsor requirements and institutional policies.
- Assists in preparing regular reports and metrics on proposal volume and quality issues identified at intake.
- Collects and reviews all post‑award documentation for externally funded awards, resulting in transmission of a complete award package to Grants and Contracts Accounting through myUABResearch.
- Reviews, creates, and approves award modifications; verifies compliance approvals and updates terms and conditions for each new award in myUABResearch, ensuring correct, detailed budget allocation for processing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $50,050 – $81,330
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in research administration, business, public administration, or a related field, and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for the education requirement.
- Experience with eRA systems in a higher education setting preferred.
- Experience working in a university or academic medical center setting preferred.
