Overview
To assist the Technical Director in overseeing technical production for live events across various UAB Arts departments. To assist in managing all stages of production, including design, budgeting, preproduction, on-site coordination, and post-production. To take charge of decision-making in the absence of the Technical Director.
Responsibilities- Assist the Technical Director (TD) to manage and train a technical team and a large number of part-time technicians. Serve as the point of contact and representative of the organization in the absence of the TD, or as appointed by the TD, for artists/agencies, internal/external rental clients, and UAB Arts departments. Review and assess technical riders to advance events/shows and create plans for day-of-show, including load-in, hangs/focus, technical rehearsals, strikes, and venue transitions.
Work with the TD to communicate with Senior Directors to determine event scope, design deliverables, proposed budgets, and timelines by given deadlines. Provide expertise on national best practices, standards, and equipment usage as set by the industry. - Assist with technical renovations, ongoing maintenance, and equipment for three facilities (Stephens Center, Abroms-Engel Institute of Visual Art, and Art Play House) under the direction of the TD. Help monitor amortization schedules and plans for technical equipment. Attend meetings and site walks with directors, clients, and other stakeholders to discuss technical operations and needs. Help ensure buildings are up-to-code and that staff are appropriately certified.
- Help ensure tech team staff adhere to UAB policy and guidelines regarding HR, financial affairs, and vendors. Maintain positive relationships with technical vendors. Partner with the Facilities Manager where facilities and technical systems overlap.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary range: $45,395 - $66,400
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Theatre Design, Technology, Theatre Productions, Entertainment Industry, Music, or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
- Currently certified as OSHA 10 hour General Industry preferred.
