Coordinate library service delivery by recruiting and supervising student assistants and ensuring customers receive friendly, efficient front-desk support.

You’ll play a key part in ensuring our library runs smoothly by coordinating service delivery, supervising our casual Student Assistants, and supporting customers with helpful, timely assistance. You'll manage rosters, contribute to enrolment support, and help keep our library welcoming, organised, and well‑resourced.

Some tasks of the role include:

  • Preparing and managing Enquiries Desk rosters
  • Coordinating communications, meetings, and training for service teams
  • Backing up interloans, distance loans, and short loans functions
  • Providing friendly, efficient frontline library services

This permanent role is based at our Lincoln Campus and works 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE). Due to the nature of the work, you will be based fully on campus during your standard hours.

From time to time, you will need to respond to messages in the evenings or weekends to resolve urgent rostering issues—for example, when staff call in sick for an upcoming shift. This responsibility is balanced with agreed flexible hours during the week (such as the option to finish early on a set day).

It would be an advantage if you were available to work on Thursday evenings or Sundays.

The salary for this position is $65,000–$72,000 per annum, depending on experience.

To be successful in the role you will have

  • Experience working in libraries, ideally within an academic environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a flexible, customer‑focused approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also taking initiative
  • Sensitivity to bicultural needs and diverse student communities
  • Sound judgement, discretion, and professionalism
  • Ability to perform duties such as shelving, pushing trolleys, and working at service points
  • Alignment with Manaakitaka and Lincoln University values.

Join a supportive, inclusive community that values diversity, wellbeing, and professional growth. Benefits include:

  • Flexible, family‑friendly work and free on‑site parking
  • Professional development & mentorship to grow your career
  • Generous leave entitlements –six weeks of paid leave per year (based on 1.0 FTE)
  • Annual salary reviews to recognise your contribution
  • Eye care support – contributions toward eye tests and glasses
  • Southern Cross employee benefits
  • On‑campus gym with discounted membership
  • On‑site early childhood centre with staff discounts
  • A social culture – friendly people, supportive teams, and plenty of opportunities to connect through events, clubs, and activities
  • A vibrant campus: beautiful grounds, cafés, and a collaborative atmosphere
