Support teaching and student learning in plant protection, ecology, and biological sciences through labs, tutorials, and hands‑on academic assistance.

In this hands‑on teaching support role, you’ll help deliver high‑quality learning experiences for diploma and undergraduate students across plant protection, ecology, and biological sciences. Working closely with academic staff, you’ll lead laboratory classes, support tutorials and field trips, and help students develop confidence and capability in their studies.

You’ll also play a key part in preparing teaching materials, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to a positive and engaging learning environment.

Some tasks of the role include:

  • Leading Diploma and 100-600 level laboratory classes in pest‑management, ecology, biological and plant sciences
  • Assisting with preparation and delivery of teaching materials
  • Helping coordinate tutorials, field trips, and tours
  • Supporting postgraduate students and maintaining equipment
  • Preparing and maintaining documentation and student records
  • Sharing knowledge and contributing to a collaborative teaching environment

This is a fixed term role ending December 20206, based at our Lincoln Campus in the Department of Pest-management and Conservation and works 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE). While the position is primarily on‑campus, some work‑from‑home flexibility may be available depending on the role’s requirements.

The salary for this position is Tutor:
Grade A1, $58,822 - $72,688.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in biology or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of fungal diagnostics, molecular techniques, and microbial production
  • Strong data handling and statistical analysis skills
  • The ability to maintain accurate, concise records
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • A commitment to working within LU policies and supporting a positive work culture
