Job Description - RN CLINICAL EDUCATOR-SON (T233739)
DescriptionThe Nursing Clinical Educator role supports undergraduate/prelicensure student learning experiences focused on mastery of competencies for clinical nursing practice. Under the supervision of designated faculty in the UAB School of Nursing, the Clinical Educators will plan and implement learning experiences, and provide instruction, coaching, and evaluation of student achievement of competencies in both student clinical practicums and clinical skills and simulation laboratory experiences.
This individual will collaborate with program faculty and skills/simulation lab staff in development and implementation of planned clinical learning experiences for both the clinical setting and the clinical skills labs.
- Supervise students in clinical practicum experiences.
- Teach in planned clinical skills/simulation lab sessions.
- Validate student mastery of required skills.
- Prepare and set up for clinical lab experiences.
- Collaborate with program and course faculty in planning and delivery of clinical learning experiences to meet student educational needs.
- Complete all required training for the clinical educator role.
- Maintain unencumbered licensure as an RN in Alabama.
- Adhere to the requirements of the clinical facility for faculty and students.
- Plan learning experiences for clinical courses with faculty.
- Provide direct supervision, instruction, coaching and evaluation of students in clinical learning experiences.
- Validate student mastery of clinical competencies.
- Model professional standards of behavior for clinical practice.
- Adhere to all undergraduate/prelicensure program policies.
- Collaborate with skills lab personnel to provide laboratory learning experiences in clinical skills training and simulations.
- Complete required training for facilitating simulation experiences.
- Provide instruction in skills lab courses.
- Participate in lab setup and breakdown for courses.
- Support implementation of simulation experiences.
- Manage supplies and equipment inventory.
- Operate mannequins, simulators, and task trainers as appropriate.
- Coach students to develop skill mastery and validate performance according to guidelines.
- Facilitate tours for recruiting faculty, prospective students, and high school students.
- Communicate equipment and supply needs to lab manager.
- Model professional standards of behavior, including collaboration, communication, excellence, and attendance.
- Maintain professional nursing attire; demonstrate ethical conduct as required by UAB.
- Perform other related duties as directed to support the missions of the School of Nursing.
Bachelor's degree in nursing required;
Master's degree in Nursing preferred. A minimum of one (1) year of clinical work experience in adult medical/surgical nursing required. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
