Overview

Department of Neurology’s Pharmacogenomics Program seeks a Pharmacogenomics Pharmacist to serve as a resource and content knowledge expert in clinical pharmacy, chronic disease therapeutic management, and pharmacogenomics for clinicians, patients, and research participants.

This position supports genomic medicine clinical and research initiatives, including the Alabama Genomic Health Initiative (AGHI), Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network, Implementing Genomics in Practice (IGNITE) Network, and the Clinical Pharmacogenomics Service.

Key

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Understand the implications of genetic variations in drug metabolism.
  • Manage individualized therapeutic plans based on genetic phenotype testing.
  • Serve as a resource and content knowledge expert for AGHI clinicians and participants.
  • Review pharmacogenetic test results, reconcile medication lists from self‑report, EMR, and other sources, and communicate actionable recommendations to clinicians.
  • Collaborate with AGHI investigators, clinicians, and clinical informatics to implement pharmacogenomics in UAB Family Medicine.
  • Maintain proficiency in medication and disease management and current treatment guidelines.
  • Participate in screening, recruitment, data collection, return‑of‑results, and education for genomic research projects.
  • Collaborate with investigators and partners to refine methods for returning results to participants and providers.
  • Provide education to clinicians, patients, and study participants on interpreting pharmacogenomic test results.
  • Assist prescribers with interpretation, drug selection, and dosing recommendations for significant gene‑drug interactions.
  • Maintain regular attendance and participate in on‑call rotation, providing timely pharmacogenomic consultations.

Compensation & Salary Range

This position is assigned to Wage Grade W.G.420 with a full compensation‑approved range of $104,045–$169,045 annually (midpoint $135,260).

Final offers will be made within this grade range based on the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and the department’s budgeted amount for the role. Applicants whose stated salary expectations fall outside the posted grade range may not be considered.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy
  • Two (2) years of related experience required
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
  • Current license as a Pharmacist by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) required
