Description
The Director of Communications provides strategic leadership for a school, college or VP office and serves on the institution s Strategic Communications Council. This role develops and oversees comprehensive communication plans, manages budgets and resources, and serves as a senior advisor to executive leadership. The Director ensures that communications advance both school/college/VP office and institutional priorities, maintain brand integrity, and achieve measurable outcomes across audiences and platforms.
To execute the communications shared services strategy for the Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM) and the Health Services Foundation (HSF). This includes organizational design of the team, communications strategy, career development, and retention strategies to strategically plan, implement, direct, and maintain the communications shared services function within the HSOM and the HSF. To lead a team of communications professionals for represented departments, centers and/or programs, and ensure communications needs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals and in compliance with professional communications standards and institutional requirements.
To recruit, hire, and manage a team of highly capable communications professionals to provide communications services to a defined group of departments/programs in a manner that is highly collaborative with all stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the departments and UAB Medicine. To work with all clients while also leading a multi-disciplinary staff to execute communications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Salary Range
: $94,375 - $153,355
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field, and ten (10) years of related experience required. Advanced degree preferred.
Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
