Position Overview
UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology is seeking a board‑certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to work in the Psychiatric Clinical Research. The PMHNP functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively with physician faculty, is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to participants in the psychiatric clinical trials.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions. Plans include patient and family education, prescriptions, lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, plans, and care provided.
- Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
- Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission; coordinate and participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
- Assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient and other health care providers.
- Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed; conduct workshops, in-service training, and distribute appropriate materials for patients and staff.
- Serve as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
- Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
- Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Nursing with PMHNP certification required.
- Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required or to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required, depending on unit/department.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a sub‑I working on industry‑sponsored clinical trials research is strongly preferred.
