Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology is seeking a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to work in the Psychiatric Clinical Research. The PMHNP functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively with physician faculty, is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to participants in the psychiatric clinical trials. The PMHNP also demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses commonly encountered, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and mood disorders.

Previous work experience in psychiatry highly preferred. Previous clinical trials experience required for sponsor-led clinical trials. The PMHNP is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for adults living with psychiatric disorders. The PMHNP demonstrates an advanced level of medical/nursing clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism and systems-based practice. The PMHNP works with administrative, nursing, physician, and university faculty to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote the UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology educational and research missions.

The PMHNP will provide care within his/her scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policy, and practice agreements.

Job Description

To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to neonatal patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician (Section 610-X-5 of the Alabama Board of Nursing Administrative Code) or under supervision of a Board Certified Physician (Section 540-X-7 of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners Administrative Code). The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physician who is pre-approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record.

To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed. To perform comprehensive physical examination and assessments. To interpret, analyze and evaluate patient s medical record and social data. To perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
