Job Description - RESEARCHER ASSISTANT (T237443)
Position SummaryThe University of Alabama at Birmingham Biology department is seeking a Researcher Assistant to join their team.
General ResponsibilitiesAs a Researcher Assistant, you will support the daily operations of research projects under close supervision of experienced researchers. You will perform standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be essential in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and keep the lab running smoothly. Depending on the research focus, the position may involve contact with research collaborators, research animals, and/or specimens.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Perform population and functional genetics experiments (e.g., DNA extractions, cell culture, single-cell RNA-seq).
- Safely handle animal-derived specimens.
- Enter and analyze data.
- General laboratory tasks (e.g., cleaning, organization, restocking).
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
$16.50 - $26.80
QualificationsAssociate’s degree in a related field, or a high school diploma or GED plus two (2) years of related experience. Work experience does not substitute for the education requirement.
Preferences- Background in biology, psychology, anthropology, or related fields.
- Experience with genomics lab work (e.g., library prep, sequencing workflows).
- Excellent time management and strong organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and strong critical-thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to cross-collaborate with a diverse team.
