About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Geologist to join their Hydrology Research team in Upington . This role is essential for investigating groundwater resources, aquifer systems, and the interaction between geological formations and water bodies. You will conduct field investigations, analyze geological and hydrological data, and contribute to research projects focused on sustainable water management in arid and semi-arid regions. Join a dedicated team working on critical environmental challenges, with a hybrid work model supporting both fieldwork and office-based data analysis and reporting in a region vital for water resource research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geological surveys and fieldwork to map subsurface structures, identify aquifer potential, and monitor groundwater levels.
  • Analyze geological core samples, rock types, and soil characteristics relevant to hydrological processes.
  • Utilize geophysical methods and hydrological modeling software to interpret subsurface data and predict groundwater flow.
  • Collect and analyze water quality data from boreholes and surface water sources.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, maps, and presentations summarizing geological and hydrological findings.
  • Collaborate with hydrologists, environmental scientists, and other stakeholders on water resource management projects.
Requirements
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in geological fieldwork, subsurface investigation, and aquifer characterization.
  • Proficiency with geological mapping tools, GIS software, and hydrological modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of hydrogeological principles, groundwater systems, and geochemistry.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex geological and hydrological data.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, suitable for a hybrid work environment in Upington .
