Telecom Fiber Optic Technician

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Telecom Fiber Optic Technician to join their network deployment team in Upington . This role involves the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks that form the backbone of modern telecommunications. You will work with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure high-quality signal transmission and network integrity. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of fiber optic principles and is comfortable working in various field conditions, contributing to the expansion of high-speed internet and communication services.

• Install and deploy fiber optic cables, including aerial and underground installations.
• Perform fiber splicing (fusion and mechanical) with precision and efficiency.
• Test fiber optic networks using OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators.
• Diagnose and repair faults in fiber optic infrastructure.
• Read and interpret fiber optic network designs and schematics.
• Ensure all work adheres to safety regulations and company quality standards.

• High school diploma or equivalent; specialized training or certification in fiber optics is highly desirable.
• Previous experience working with fiber optic cables and related equipment.
• Proficiency in fiber splicing techniques and fiber optic testing methodologies.
• Understanding of fiber optic network infrastructure and components.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team in outdoor environments.
• Good physical condition, capable of climbing, digging, and lifting as required.
