Lead Telecoms Field Technician

Our client, a prominent telecommunications infrastructure company, is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Telecoms Field Technician to oversee operations in the Upington, Northern Cape region. This role is essential for ensuring the seamless installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure at various client sites. As the Lead Technician, you will be responsible for guiding a team of field technicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and delivering high-quality service.

The successful candidate will possess a strong technical aptitude, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to operational excellence. This is a hands‑on role that requires a significant amount of travel within the Northern Cape province, performing critical on‑site work. You will be the primary point of contact for technical issues in the field and will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and performance of our client's network assets.

• Lead and supervise a team of field technicians in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of telecommunications systems.
• Perform complex installations and maintenance of fiber optic cables, network hardware, and associated equipment.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to plan and execute field operations effectively.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and materials for field operations.
• Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering a culture of skill development and continuous improvement.
• Respond to service calls and resolve network issues promptly and efficiently.
• Maintain accurate records of all field activities, including work performed, time spent, and materials used.
• Liaise with project managers and clients to ensure project timelines and client satisfaction are met.

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in telecommunications field operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
• Proven expertise in fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing.
• Strong understanding of telecommunications network architectures and equipment (e.g., routers, switches, antennas).
• Proficiency in using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment for field maintenance.
• Excellent knowledge of safety procedures and practices for working at heights and in various environmental conditions.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
• Strong problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings, and travel extensively within the Northern Cape .
