Commercial Refrigeration Installation Engineer

Our client, a premier provider of commercial refrigeration solutions for the hospitality and retail sectors, is seeking an experienced Commercial Refrigeration Installation Engineer for their operations in Upington, Northern Cape
. This challenging role involves the precise installation, commissioning, and initial setup of sophisticated refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases, and specialized cold storage units. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical controls, and system integration, coupled with exceptional diagnostic and problem-solving skills. You will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of vital cooling infrastructure for businesses across Upington and the broader Northern Cape region.

• Install and commission commercial refrigeration units, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated piping.
• Perform complex electrical wiring and control system installations for refrigeration equipment.
• Read and interpret refrigeration schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Ensure all installations comply with relevant building codes, safety regulations (including handling refrigerants), and manufacturer specifications.
• Conduct thorough system checks and performance testing post-installation to guarantee optimal operation and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any installation-related issues, including refrigerant leaks, electrical malfunctions, and control system failures.
• Provide technical guidance and handover to client personnel on system operation and basic maintenance.
• Maintain detailed records of all installation activities, including refrigerant charging, pressure tests, and system parameters.
• Manage inventory of installation tools, materials, and refrigerant safely and efficiently.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols, especially when working with pressurized systems and at heights.
• Communicate professionally with clients, project managers, and support teams.

• Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience in the installation and commissioning of commercial refrigeration systems.
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, and psychrometrics.
• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and control systems for refrigeration equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret complex refrigeration schematics and technical documentation.
• Experience with brazing, soldering, and pipework for refrigeration systems.
• Familiarity with various types of commercial refrigeration equipment (e.g., display cases, walk-ins, chillers).
• Possession of a valid refrigerant handling license/certification.
• Excellent problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.
• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Must be based in or willing to travel extensively within the Upington, Northern Cape region.
• Relevant trade qualification in refrigeration or electrical engineering is highly preferred.
