Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support accounting operations for a Local Government organization in Upland, California. This is a Contract position focused on maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with daily accounting activities, and contributing to a smooth month-end close process. The ideal candidate brings strong Excel capabilities and hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and accounts payable and receivable functions.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are captured accurately and on time.

- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain the integrity of cash records.

- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including reviewing transactions and resolving routine issues.

- Assist with audit preparation by organizing documentation and responding to requests for financial support materials.

- Maintain general ledger accuracy through regular review, analysis, and correction of account activity.

- Use Excel to analyze financial data, reconcile downloaded reports, and create clear supporting schedules.

- Contribute to tax-related accounting tasks, including support for corporate tax and sales tax reporting requirements. Requirements - Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.

- Strong knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.

- Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and audit support responsibilities.

- Above-average Excel skills, including the ability to work with downloaded reports and perform detailed reconciliations.

- Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
