Job Description & How to Apply Below

The City of Upland is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and collaborative professional to serve as our Risk Management Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen eye for identifying risk and a desire to grow their knowledge of public sector risk management.

Working closely with and reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Human Resources & Risk Management, the Risk Management Coordinator will help protect the City's employees, operations, and resources by coordinating a comprehensive risk management program. The position works collaboratively with all City departments to minimize organizational risk, promote workplace safety, manage liability claims, review contracts and certificates of insurance, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and best practices.

This is a dynamic, hands‑on position where no two days are alike. Responsibilities may include investigating claims in the field, attending mediations, depositions, Small Claims Court, or City Council Closed Sessions, analyzing claims trends, coordinating training, and working with employees, supervisors, attorneys, and third‑party administrators to proactively reduce risk.

The ideal candidate is an organized relationship builder with experience in risk management, claims administration, contract review, and workplace safety. The successful candidate will be adaptable, detail‑oriented, exercise sound judgment, and enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment where their work has a direct impact on protecting the City and the community it serves.
