General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific assigned area of the Store and for the general operations and supervision when serving as the Manager on Duty. The role includes opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, keeping a clean work area, and executing Company operational processes as needed.

Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Prioritizes safety and practices safe behaviors.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe environment and correct or report unsafe conditions.
  • Secures the building, controls entrance/exit, checks EAS devices, maintains Cash Office security, and manages armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
  • Removes clutter to ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Handles customer safety including accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
  • Tests fire alarm systems and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treats all customers, Associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognizes Associates using Company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintains a professional appearance per the Dress Code and ensures all Associates adhere to it.
  • Keeps all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Manages daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet Company standards; teaches and follows up on best practices.
  • Receives merchandise trucks and processes all merchandise with urgency.
  • Handles non‑merchandise inbound deliveries such as signs, supplies, and special deliveries.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.
  • Assists in placing merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
  • Secures and processes back‑stock per policy.
  • Manages merchandising of departments and back‑stock.
  • Reduces loss due to damage.
  • Ensures compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
  • Manages floor moves and promotional signing as needed.
  • Handles re‑wraps when required.
Loss Prevention
  • Implements Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a full customer service presence on the sales floor.
  • Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions with Associates and Customers; safeguards confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
  • Maintains the Public View Monitor system.
  • Conducts package inspections.
  • Executes Company Best Practices to maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Executes Company Best Practices, maximizes productivity by minimizing unnecessary steps, and ensures Associates meet front‑end standards.
  • Maintains pace, energy, and presence at the front end; manages the line to reduce customer wait times.
  • Trains and coaches Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
  • Controls Retail Associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
  • Ensures all equipment and supplies are in working order.
  • Ensures go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
  • Teaches the “Scan and Bag” best practice to all Associates.
  • Ensures merchandise salability on the front end, aisle tables, Men’s/Women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
  • Maintains and cleans the fitting rooms.
  • Audits and accounts for all fitting room garment tags per policy.
  • Ensures go‑back compliance throughout the day; all returned merchandise is ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security‑tagged as required.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
  • Conducts cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy.
  • Controls front end during requirements; understands policies on refunds, associate purchases, secure tills and cash in safe, register paid outs/ins, void approvals, register media, and break schedules.
