Salary: $95,000 - $110,000

Other Compensation: 15% Bonus Eligible

Job Summary

The Director of Dining Services is the strategic business leader of the community’s food and beverage/culinary operation, ensuring resident and client satisfaction while meeting financial goals and driving a positive work environment. You will oversee departmental strategies and execute Compass Community Living’s service strategy.

Leading Food & Beverage Operation
  • Develop and implement overall operating strategy aligned with the business strategy.
  • Own driving desired outcomes, hold leadership team accountable for service behaviors.
  • Evaluate personnel, operations, and culinary situations and recommend actions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, adapt and problem‑solve during stressful periods.
  • Perform daily walk‑throughs to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Direct safety, sanitation and maintenance programs.
  • Lead pre‑meal briefings and staff meetings for continuous communication.
  • Advise executives, supervisors and staff on relevant information in a timely manner.
Business and Financial Competence
  • Analyze market dynamics and business objectives to diagnose strengths, anticipate risks and develop strategies.
  • Recognize and understand P&L drivers to evaluate results and identify opportunities.
  • Develop overall budget and manage the account within budget while delivering maximum value.
  • Coach the team to manage wages, food and beverage costs, and controllable expenses.
  • Review financial reports and statements to assess performance against budget.
  • Work with the team to resolve concerns and improve financial performance.
Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
  • Understand the client’s business model and prioritize resident needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with residents, staff and other departments.
  • Review resident satisfaction data and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Improve service through communication, mentorship and coaching.
  • Stay aware of market trends and introduce new products to exceed expectations.
  • Empower employees to provide excellent service that meets satisfaction.
Team Building & Management
  • Lead team member meetings regularly.
  • Create a positive work environment and model appropriate behaviors.
  • Establish performance, budget and team goals.
  • Solicit feedback, apply an open‑door policy and review employee satisfaction.
  • Coach and mentor team members to reach their potential.
  • Cross‑train skills and promote professional growth.
  • Find, train and retain talent through behavioral interviewing.
  • Hire leadership team members with strong expertise and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees.
  • Hold self and team members accountable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S. in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or A.A. plus four years of directly related experience.
  • 5–7 years of direct food service operational management experience with inventory and purchasing control.
  • Strong knowledge of food and catering trends focusing on quality, sanitation, cost controls, and presentation.
  • Previous P&L accountability or contract‑managed service experience is desirable.
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, management and coaching skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent financial, budgetary, accounting and computational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, e‑mail and the Internet.
