Assistant Director, New Student & Family Experiences
Reporting to the Director of New Student and Family Experiences, the Assistant Director provides leadership for the operations and logistics of New Student Registration (on campus and online) and the New Student Online Orientation in Canvas. The role manages related data and systems, supports assessment efforts, and collaborates with academic colleges and campus partners to ensure effective delivery of these key components of the university’s orientation and transition programs, fostering student success, inclusion, and belonging.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesNSR Logistics and Communication
- Oversee all logistics of the NSR program including scheduling space reservations, parking, database management, student registration, etc.
- Build and manage the annual NSR calendar.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage registration procedures for NSR (both in person and online).
- Track NSR deliverables and deadlines for campus partners.
- Manage conflicts that arise from students regarding NSR registration availability.
- Manage changes between cycles each year.
- Compile and prepare reports to assist NSFE Director with assessment on department and program goals.
- Assist NSFE Director with communication and marketing plan for NSR including website content, email, new student checklist, etc., maintaining clarity and consistency.
- Assist NSFE Director in working with colleges to foster a cohesive registration experience across all academic units.
New Student Online Orientation
- Serve as primary coordinator for New Student Online Orientation course in Canvas.
- Assist NSFE Director with development and implementation of New Student Online Orientation modules aligned with program learning outcomes.
- Assist the NSFE Director with program strategy development and short‑term operational plans and directions.
- Implement timelines of projects and tasks related to online orientation.
- Manage communications and registrations for online orientation.
- Respond to student inquiries, providing individual guidance and troubleshooting technology issues.
- Oversee the monitoring of participation of all students, providing reports on completion.
- Lead assessment of online orientation to evaluate student engagement and measure achievement of established program learning outcomes, using data to inform continuous improvement.
NSFE Office Support
- Support other orientation and transition programming (Welcome Week, Spring Orientation, etc.) as needed.
- Represent NSFE at events and programs around campus when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
- A total of two (2) years (24 months) in education, training and/or work experience in higher education student services.
- Demonstrated project coordination or management experience.
- Data reporting or analytics experience.
Education:
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, business administration, or related field.
Experience:
- Experience working with institutional structures, policies and procedures.
- Experience working with university registration systems, such as Banner and Slate.
- Experience in Canvas or other LMS systems.
- Experience in student services, orientation, or enrollment management.
- Experience using data for decision‑making and process improvement.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person, collaborate across teams and build productive professional relationships.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make informed decisions in a fast‑paced setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of FERPA regulations and an ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive student records.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with campus partners, faculty, administrators, and students.
- Ability to balance interruptions and multiple/varied tasks.
- Ability to work in a flexible, fast‑paced, positive team atmosphere.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to anticipate challenges and implement proactive solutions.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong data reporting and analytics skills.
