Position

The Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership is seeking a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track Specialized Teaching Professor. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.

Position Description

The Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership (EPOL) seeks a dynamic and experienced Specialized Teaching Faculty with expertise in research methodologies for students enrolled in our Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) programs. In addition to teaching, this specialized faculty position will provide strategic oversight and program coordination to support doctoral students across multiple concentrations, including Diversity & Equity in Education, Global Studies in Education, Higher Education, Human Resource Development, and Learning Design and Leadership.

Sustain a research agenda aligned with the teaching and service expectations described above (10% of time).

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in education or a closely related field.
  • Experience with online teaching in fields including, but not limited to, research methodology and dissertation proposal development.
  • Demonstrated experience in graduate advising and doctoral committee work.
  • Demonstrated program coordination and student support services in graduate and/or online education.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with online and hybrid graduate programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.
  • Background in educational leadership, policy, or organizational development.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as EPOL liaison in working with the Office of Online Programs in onboarding and orientation for new Ed.D. students, as well as ongoing advising to address barriers to student success, including academic, procedural, and personal challenges.
  • Support faculty advisors in facilitating and coordinating success for post-coursework milestones – qualifying exams, dissertation proposal, and dissertation defense – among online Ed.D. students across EPOL concentrations.
  • Within EPOL, collaborate with the Director of Graduate Studies, concentration coordinators, and faculty advisors to ensure consistency across Ed.D. pathways, including maintaining and updating program handbooks, timelines, and advising materials.
  • Work with the EPOL leadership team to identify and address barriers to student success, including academic, procedural, and personal challenges.
  • Teach at least three courses per academic year in a concentration area aligned with academic background and professional expertise, including online EdD courses related to methods and doctoral milestones.
  • Sustain a research agenda aligned with the teaching and service expectations described above (10% of time).
  • Contribute to additional service time across the department and college committees as identified (10% of time).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Starting Date

The budgeted salary range for the position is $68,000 to $80,000 for the Assistant Professor level, $80,000 to $90,000 for the Associate Professor level, and $90,000 to $100,000 for the Full Professor level, on a nine-month service basis.
