About the Role

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign – The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering in the Grainger College of Engineering invites applicants for multiple open-rank, tenure-track, full‑time faculty positions (assistant, associate, or full professor). Preference is given to candidates working in energy/thermal fluids and robotics/manufacturing with AI influence. The program is nationally ranked in undergraduate mechanical engineering, online graduate education, and graduate programs, and offers access to world‑class experimental and computational facilities.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical science and engineering and related areas.
• Establish and maintain an active and independent research program that contributes to the department’s and the university’s academic excellence.
• Serve the department, the university, and the broader profession through scholarly activity, committee work, and community engagement.
• Support the university’s land‑grant mission by integrating teaching, research, and service.

• A doctoral degree in a relevant engineering or science field (or a related field).
• Demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and service; a record of publications and external grant support is expected.
• Experience or strong potential in the preferred areas (energy/thermal fluids or robotics/manufacturing with AI influence).
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all activities.

Salary ranges are:
- Assistant Professor: $115,000 – $125,000
- Associate Professor: $125,000 – $140,000
- Full Professor: $140,000 – $210,000
All positions are 9‑month service based, paid over 12 months. Full consideration will be given to applications received by January 31, 2026; however, candidates may continue to apply until the positions are filled. A start date of August 16, 2026 is expected, negotiable as needed.
